Abstract

The aim of this within-subject crossover clinical experiment intended to evaluate the standard of living individuals with torus palatini who were rehabilitated with two denture designs The Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index was employed (GOHAI).The study comprised a total of 66 participants who were entirely edentulous and had their tori restored using two denture designs. The Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) was utilized to evaluate the oral health of patient satisfaction with two different denture designs. The survey was done two times. For the first three months, the patients were given a complete denture with a window. When the three-month follow-up period came to an end, the following implantation of the dentures with the window, the participantswere interviewed and were assisted with filling the GOHAI questionnaire to assess their satisfaction. The answers for each item ranged from 1(the worst result) to 5 (the best result). The patients were re-interviewed using same questionnaire to assess their satisfaction after three months, after issue of the modified denture which is horse shoe shaped. All of the patients were interviewed by the same interviewer, who handed out the questionnaire and took notes on their responses. Mean total GOHAI score was more in horseshoe group and it was statistically significant. In this study, patients reported limiting certain types of food due to problem with their denture and encountered trouble while biting or chewing, had trouble while swallowing and found it uncomfortable eating in front of others with the complete denture with a window. This suggests that participants were more concerned about factors related to physical function and psychosocial aspects with denture wear, when self‐assessing their quality of life. Patients reported improved quality of life with the horseshoe shaped dentures. Geriatrics' self-perceptions about their dental health, rehabilitated with alternative or modified treatment can give relevant information on QoL and help identify the impacts of modified treatment plans.
